Google is expanding its Veo 3 video generation tool by adding an image-to-video feature within the Gemini app. The update, announced on Thursday, allows users to upload a photo and turn it into a video by selecting the “Videos” option from the prompt menu. Users can also describe the kind of audio they want, which the tool then incorporates into the video. Once completed, the video can be downloaded or shared directly.
This feature was first introduced through Google’s Flow video creation tool, which debuted in May during the company’s I/O developer conference. Since then, Flow and Gemini users have collectively created more than 40 million videos using Veo 3, according to Google. Now, with this new addition to the Gemini app, the company is offering users more ways to experiment with creative content using AI.
At the moment, video generation is limited to users of Google’s AI Ultra and AI Pro subscription plans, and they are capped at three video creations per day. There is no rollover for unused daily creations. Google has made the Veo 3-powered features available in more than 150 countries, which marks a steady rollout strategy for the company’s expanding AI tools.
To maintain transparency and prevent misuse, all videos generated with Veo 3 include a visible “Veo” watermark as well as an invisible SynthID watermark. SynthID is Google’s digital fingerprinting technology designed to help identify AI-generated content, and earlier this year, the company released a tool to detect media that contains this mark.
The steady growth in usage and features reflects Google’s ongoing effort to build trust while enhancing the creative potential of its AI tools. By embedding content protection and giving users intuitive video creation tools, Google is not only keeping pace with competitors like OpenAI and Runway but also aiming to shape how AI content is created and tracked in the digital world.
